War Child Alliance and Can’t Wait To Learn sign joint letter calling for urgent action to protect and increase education financing
June 19, 2026

War Child Alliance and Can’t Wait To Learn have signed a joint letter calling for urgent action to protect and increase education financing, at a time when hard-won progress for children and young people is being reversed. With more than 190 partners and coalitions standing together, representing over 16,000 local, national, and global organisations, this is a powerful demonstration of collective commitment at a critical moment.
As highlighted in the letter, amid conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability, education systems are under unprecedented strain. The current global financing gap stands at US$97 billion annually, threatening decades of progress, and long-term peace, prosperity, and equality.
Through this open letter, we are urging decision-makers around the world to act now and:
- Fully fund the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and Education Cannot Wait (ECW) at levels that match the scale of today’s education financing crisis
- Protect and expand domestic and global education financing
- Prioritise education financing that meets the diverse and intersecting needs of children, young people, students, and teachers.
